The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place from November 20, 2022, to December 18, 2022, in Qatar. There will be 32 teams that will take part in the competition. Out of these 32 teams one team i.e. Qatar qualified as hosts while the 31 teams will qualify through a preliminary competition. The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be played in two stages, the first being the Group Stage while the second will be the Knockout Stage (Round of 16, Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals, Third-place play-off and Final). The details about both stages are as under:
Group Stage (32 Teams)

- Eight groups of four teams
- Teams finishing first and second in each group shall qualify for the round of sixteen
- Four matches will be played on each day

Round of 16 (16 Teams)

- Winners of this stage will proceed to the quarter-finals
- In case of a draw after 90 minutes, extra time of two halves of 15 minutes each will be played
- If the score is level after extra time, penalty kicks will be taken to determine the winner

Quarter-finals (8 Teams)

- Winners of this stage will proceed to the semi-finals
- In case of a draw after 90 minutes, extra time of two halves of 15 minutes each will be played
- If the score is level after extra time, penalty kicks will be taken to determine the winner

Semi-finals (4 Teams)

- Winners of this stage will qualify for the final
- The Losers will contest the play-off for third place
- In case of a draw after 90 minutes, extra time of two halves of 15 minutes each will be played
- If the score is level after extra time, penalty kicks will be taken to determine the winner

Third-place play-off (2 Teams)

- In case of a draw after 90 minutes, extra time of two halves of 15 minutes each will be played
